Gen Sou En is a new café concept from the Harada Tea Processing Company, the largest green tea processing company in Japan.

The flagship Gen Sou En café will be opening this fall in Coolidge Corner, and will offer a refined, Japanese-inspired café experience, from-scratch food and baked goods, and a wide selection of Japanese teas and coffees.

Over the next 2-3 years, the Harada Tea company plans to expand the Gen Sou En concept across multiple locations in the Boston area and beyond.

Harada Tea is seeking an Opening General Manager for the flagship Gen Sou En café. The Opening General Manager will be an essential member of staff, and the expectation is that as Gen Sou En adds locations over the coming year, the Opening General Manager will take on the role of VP of Retail Operations for the group.

The Opening General Manager will work closely with the president of Harada Tea to develop and implement a unique, Japanese-inspired style of service, and service standards, for Gen Sou En cafes. This position offers a unique opportunity to create the foundations of service for an entire restaurant group, from the ground up.

Once the location is open, the Opening General Manager will oversee all aspects of front of house operations and guest experience, including staffing, training, inventory, and, payroll and accounting, again with the expectation that operational approaches and templates developed at this location will be carried over to other locations as they open.

Successful candidates should:

Have at least 5 years of F&B management experience, preferably at a top tier hotel or restaurant group.

Have a deep love of hospitality.

Have a solid understanding of and familiarity with best practices in restaurant and café operations and management.

Be familiar with, or interested in, Japanese culture, especially Japanese models of hospitality, and Japanese food & beverage culture.

A degree in hospitality management is strongly preferred.

Salary and benefits for this position are highly competitive, equivalent to a top tier hotel or restaurant area management position.
