Cocktail Time: Sweater Weather at Raines Law Room

Posted in Cocktail Time on January 4, 2013

Flatiron cocktail haunt Raines Law Room has long been a favorite for inventive, seasonal cocktails that utilize creative ingredients in unexpected ways. Head bartender Meaghan Dorman took a moment from shaking and stirring to tell us about one her favorite new drinks, the Sweater Weather, made with local apple cider, Tennessee whiskey, Palo Cortado sherry, orgeat and grated cinnamon.

“We wanted to incorporate a cocktail with delicious apple cider from the local area, which we get at the Union Square Greenmarket. This was right as election season was heating up so we were focusing on domestic spirits as a fun “stimulus plan.” We chose George Dickel Tennessee whiskey, which blended nicely with the cider. We then add Palo Cortado sherry for a touch of acidity and complexity and orgeat to compliment the vanilla and nutty notes in the whiskey. We shake all this up and serve it on the rocks with a touch of orange oil expressed over the top for a nice seasonal scent. We finish the Sweater Weather up with grated cinnamon on top. It’s been very popular!”
